Matter

"Matter" is a testimony coming from four women, each of them having built their identities through their dancing bodies. They improvise their daily lives, hoping to preserve their own specific sensitivities. Coping with social expectations which curb the complexity of their beings, they desert the referents infiltrated in their cores. Their sheer, laid-bare presences shall resist.
To create "Matter" Julie Nioche has moved for two years to meet four women, dancers-choreographers of her age, who had one day touched her, struck her, upset her, questioned her with their choices of dance as means of expression.
She went to their countries, their towns, so as to understand how their imaginations were built. To understand the origins of their individualities, their bodies and their particular ways to engage themselves in the public space through art : Mia Habib, a Norwegian; Rani Nair, a Swede with an Indian father; Bouchra Ouizguen, a Moroccan, Julie Nioche, a French and Filiz Sizanli, a Turkish woman who was unable to complete the project. They built "Matter" out of their stories as women.
In this project, the dancing built itself in reaction against a specific environment systematically related to a story, a place, a nature, an atmosphere. A ’combined identity’.
